Striving towards a stellar experience for both clients and candidates

Himanshu is a Recruitment Coordinator in our Hyderabad Global Service Centre (GSC). Supporting global recruitment efforts for our well-known Professional Services client, Himanshu functions as the initial point of contact for potential hires, providing an outstanding candidate experience. Read on for insights on how he first embarked on this journey, and how Robert Walters has become home since.

What does a typical day like look like for you?

With a variety of candidates to interact with daily, there is never a cookie-cutter day. We do however, engage with these candidates in a consistent manner, in line with outhiring process guidelines – getting sign-on for various interviews, preparing them for assessment centers and answering their queries along the way. It is a balancing act that is time-consuming, but a challenge which I really enjoy.

What did you do prior to working at Robert Walters?

I was undertaking Recruitment Coordination for more than two years before joining Robert Walters, but only had exposure within the India market. Most of my work back then focused on consultant retention, where we ensured that our headcount would be effectively matched to their next clients before scheduled contracts end. I was also the point of contact for said candidates and managers. It was similar to what I am doing now, but with Robert Walters I get far more global exposure, which is great for my growth.

What do you enjoy about working onsite in the GSC?

What stands out for me are the avenues of support available as I conduct my work in Hyderabad. When I was first assigned as an internal Recruitment Coordinator, my manager, Geeta, was always on hand to show me the ropes, while my trainers, Maureen, and Nikki, offered a bubbly yet steadying presence on the Learning & Development aspects. Throughout my client assignments since, my managers have occasionally changed, but the support remains strong.

What are the main challenges in your role with Robert Walters?

Given the nature of our work, there is a degree of ambiguity in every situation. However, the strong support mentioned above persists, and the team is always ready to extend help to each other. There’s constant communication as we solve problems and try to put forth the best experience for our candidates.

This communication also goes a long way in resolving region-specific issues. Different regions have different assessment centers and nuances within hiring procedures, which takes a while for a newcomer to pick up, but the level support has put me in a better place to handle multiple regions at once.

How do you find the working conditions at Robert Walters?

They have been memorable since the very start! I recall receiving a bouquet from Robert Walters on my first day of work-from-home, and the hospitality continued when we finally got to head back to the office.

Throughout my time in the office, safety has been top priority. From oxygen level and temperature checks when entering the office, to sanitizing and social distancing enforcement, I am given peace of mind amidst the pandemic.

"Everything I’ve experienced so far in Robert Walters shows what a great organisation it is. It provides global exposure to its employees, and a stellar client experience to its partners. I’ve learned so much from people around the world and will fully endorse Robert Walters to anyone looking to join us.”

What about the culture?

The culture is amazing. My teammates and managers have all been approachable and helpful, and we have been able to build meaningful relationship even during work-from-home thanks to regular online engagements.

I particularly enjoy the variety of company-wide sessions available. On one hand, Robert Walters organises many holiday-themed games and competitions, and educational explorations of culture within the territories Robert Walters are based in. On the other hand, Robert Walters has no problems encouraging inclusive discussion forums for topics some in society may consider taboo, and employees feel liberated to put points forward without being judged. Overall, it has been a great place to expand my worldview.

If a friend was considering a role at Robert Walters, what would you say?

I would give it a solid A.  A for amazing! From the bouquet gesture to the training, everything I have experienced so far in Robert Walters shows what a great organisation it is. It provides global exposure to its employees, and a stellar client experience to its partners. I have learned so much from people around the world and will fully endorse Robert Walters to anyone looking to join us.
